Anthony Kui Sin Vierra has done an exceptional job as the executive chef of downtown's Grand Cafe & Bakery, creating simple, flavorful versions of classic comfort foods. I'm sad to hear that he's leaving but excited at the prospect of his new Chinatown restaurant, Epic. The fringing area that connects Chinatown and the Bishop/downtown business district is slowly transforming into quite a happening place, what with First Fridays, Brasserie Du Vin still in its infancy, Soul de Cuba, and now the New American-influenced Epic.
Well, it looks like I'll just have to revisit Grand Cafe after they find a new chef. Oh darn.
